Ashton Kutcher is departing Sound Ventures to launch a new venture capital firm focusing on early-stage startups with Morgan Beller.

Ashton Kutcher is embarking on a new venture in the world of finance after stepping down from the firm he helped establish. After a decade at Sound Ventures, a venture capital fund he co-founded in 2015, Kutcher is launching a new firm together with Morgan Beller, a former general partner at NFX. The new effort will focus on early-stage startups, although the specifics regarding the size of the fund and the investment strategy remain undisclosed.

Will Kutcher's departure affect Sound Ventures? It's worth noting that his exit will not sever ties with the firm. Kutcher plans to offer advisory support to Sound Ventures, which currently oversees over $1 billion in assets. This includes a diverse portfolio featuring investments in major companies like Airbnb and Uber as well as a significant stake in OpenAI, estimated at $30 million. The firm has also recently raised a $240 million fund aimed at AI investments, positioning itself in a rapidly growing sector.

Additionally, Sound Ventures is not limited to AI. The firm has solid investments in the cryptocurrency space, supporting Web3 initiatives such as Syndicate, Cryptoys, and The Fabricant. Beller's expertise further strengthens this area of focus. She brings a wealth of experience from her time leading the strategy for Meta's once-ambitious Libra project, which aimed to establish a digital currency globally. Despite facing regulatory challenges that led to its downfall, Beller's involvement provided her with deep insights into digital payments and blockchain technologies.

Before joining NFX as a general partner in 2020, where she emphasizes early-stage investments, Beller worked on the Libra project starting in 2017. Thus, her collaboration with Kutcher at the new venture capital firm could signal a strategic move toward shaping future business landscapes, particularly in tech and cryptocurrency.
