AUSD's recent surge on Monad highlights growth in stablecoins and potential impacts for investors. What does this mean for the crypto landscape?

#How has AUSD Stablecoin Gained Traction?

AUSD, Agora's stablecoin, has experienced remarkable growth, nearly doubling its circulating supply on the Monad blockchain within a week. The supply surged by around 124%, now standing at $72.68 million. This dramatic increase has positioned AUSD as the leading stablecoin on Monad, a blockchain known for its high performance, which commenced operations in mid-June 2026. Thanks to its rapid adoption, AUSD quickly achieved over $1 billion in transfer volume, benefiting from a robust user base of over 3,000 active addresses.

#What Are the Key Factors Behind AUSD's Expansion?

Two primary factors are contributing to AUSD's remarkable growth. The launch of the Monad Foundation has significantly driven decentralized finance (DeFi) activities on the platform. Additionally, the introduction of Pendle on June 19 has further accelerated AUSD's use through yield pools offering up to $100,000 in incentives weekly.

Currently, AUSD's total supply across all blockchains is approximately $181 million, with the Monad deployment constituting about 40% of this volume. This places Monad as the predominant venue for AUSD by a considerable margin.

#Why is Agora's Institutional Approach Important?

Agora has structured AUSD to be fully backed on a 1:1 basis by reserves of US dollars, which includes cash equivalents and Treasury securities. These reserves are overseen by VanEck and stored at State Street. AUSD first entered the market on July 7, 2024, following a $12 million seed funding round led by Dragonfly. By July 2025, Agora had closed a $50 million Series A funding, primarily backed by Paradigm.

The recent hiring of Tanya Denisova as head of operations is a strategic move for Agora. She has valuable experience as the former COO of Robinhood Crypto and will also oversee operations related to a proposed National Trust Bank charter.

#What Should Investors Watch for Next?

Investors should pay close attention to the Pendle integration. While the yield pools offering substantial weekly incentives are attractive, such incentives tend to be short-lived. The true measure of a stablecoin’s strength lies in its ability to maintain deep liquidity without ongoing subsidies.

If Agora successfully secures a National Trust Bank charter, it will operate under a regulatory framework that many crypto-native stablecoin issuers have not explored. This could create opportunities for new banking partnerships, fiat on-ramps, and enterprise integrations that traditional DeFi-focused rivals may not access.

However, with AUSD's dependency on Monad, which represents 40% of its total supply, any technical issues or liquidity crunches on the network could have a significant impact on the token's stability. Competitors like Circle and Tether are also expanding their presence on new chains, increasing the competitive landscape.
