Binance is discontinuing NFT support on its centralized exchange and urging users to move their digital assets to the Binance Wallet. Users have until July 3, 2026, to transfer their NFTs; otherwise, these collectibles will become permanently unreachable. To facilitate this transition, Binance is offering compensation to up to 100,000 users who withdraw non-CR7 NFTs before the June 17, 2026, deadline. Each eligible user can claim a reimbursement of 1 USDC.
This process entails users withdrawing their NFTs from the Binance Exchange to the Binance Wallet or any compatible alternative wallet. After the deadline, NFTs that remain on the exchange will not be retrievable.
For those holding specific non-transferable NFTs, Binance will provide educational PDF certificates as a consolation. The goal of these initiatives seems to encourage a smooth migration while highlighting the platform's transition to a self-custodial model. This shift will now place full responsibility for asset security on users, contrasting the previous model where the platform managed private keys for users.
Additionally, Binance has introduced a unique reimbursement track for CR7 NFTs, linked to its collaboration with Cristiano Ronaldo that garnered significant attention, implying that these assets involve distinct contractual obligations. Missing the July deadline results in a total loss of access to NFTs held on the exchange, urging users to act promptly as the time frame is shorter than anticipated. This migration underscores a broader trend of centralized platforms pulling back from NFT offerings, as evidenced by other exchanges experiencing reduced trading volumes this year.
The logistical implications of this change may pose a challenge for investors holding a few NFTs. The shift to self-custody emphasizes that while convenience is key, securing assets is now a direct responsibility for users. As the deadline approaches, it's crucial for Binance users to remain vigilant and take necessary actions to safeguard their valued digital collectibles.
