Clalit Health Services teams up with PANDAI to develop an AI platform for pandemic detection and management across Europe.

#How is Clalit Health Services Contributing to Global Pandemic Preparedness?

Clalit Health Services stands as Israel’s largest healthcare provider, boasting a membership of over 4.8 million individuals. Recently, it has been selected as a pivotal collaborator in PANDAI, an international research initiative aimed at developing an artificial intelligence platform to foresee and manage potential pandemics throughout Europe.

The PANDAI project receives substantial funding through Horizon Europe, totaling €8 million, and has a planned duration of three years.

#What Does PANDAI Do?

In an innovative shift from fragmented country-based data collection, PANDAI seeks to unify health data from the UK, Denmark, Spain, Luxembourg, Israel, and Bangladesh onto a single platform. By harnessing AI technology, this platform will analyze these data sets to identify outbreak patterns more efficiently than human epidemiologists, potentially catching signals that could be otherwise overlooked.

Clalit enriches this partnership with extensive resources. Operating 14 hospitals and approximately 1,600 clinics, it accumulates a vast quantity of clinical data that can significantly enhance research outcomes. The organization maintains comprehensive electronic health records dating back to the 1990s, encompassing millions of patients.

Further strengthening its role, Clalit contributes its proprietary AI system known as the Clalit Predictive Proactive Interventions system, or CPI. This system utilizes predictive analytics on patient data to anticipate health risks before they escalate into severe issues.

#Who Else is Involved in This Initiative?

Additionally, the project sees the participation of esteemed institutions such as the University of Oxford and the World Health Organization, along with technology partners like Technovative Solutions and Bahia Software.

#What is Clalit’s Experience with AI?

In a notable development earlier this year, Clalit established a collaboration with Cloudera to enhance real-time data analytics throughout its network. The objective is to optimize the usability of Clalit’s extensive data for clinical decision-making, potentially transforming patient outcomes and public health initiatives.
