#Why is DeFiLlama Delisting Aster's Perpetual Volume Data?
DeFiLlama has announced that it will be removing Aster's perpetual trading statistics due to identified concerns regarding irregular trading patterns. An investigation revealed that Aster's trading volume closely resembles that of Binance, which raises suspicions about potential wash trading.
The founder of DeFiLlama noted that certain trading pairs on Aster displayed a nearly one-to-one correlation with Binance's trading behavior. Without access to more detailed execution data, the DeFiLlama team cannot ascertain whether these mirrored volumes result from wash trading or if they are due to synthetic activities. As a precautionary measure to uphold data integrity, DeFiLlama has decided to delist Aster’s perpetual volume data until further information is available.
#What Impact Did This Move Have on Aster?
In light of these developments, Aster, which is positioned as a competitor to the decentralized perpetual exchange Hyperliquid, saw its native token, ASTER, decline from $2 to approximately $1.8, according to on-chain data. The token had launched in mid-September and momentarily peaked at $2.4 by the end of that month. Notably, Aster had recently surpassed Hyperliquid, becoming the leading decentralized perpetuals exchange by daily fees.
The decision by DeFiLlama to remove Aster's perpetual trading volume data has ignited discussions within the community. The founder reiterated that this decision centers around maintaining data integrity rather than showing favoritism toward one platform over another. He emphasized that users rely on accurate data to make informed investing decisions. Incorrect data could lead to misguided investment strategies.
In the past, DeFiLlama discreetly removed Aster’s revenue data to prevent misinformation, although this latest action was made public to avoid fuelling conspiracy theories. The platform's API does not currently support adding warnings about data irregularities, but future changes could address this limitation. The founder also noted that DeFiLlama has enacted similar measures against other decentralized exchanges facing data inconsistencies.
