DTCC will start live trades of tokenized assets in July, enhancing market efficiency and bridging traditional and digital finance.

#How is DTCC Preparing for Live Trades of Tokenized Assets?

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation, known for processing nearly all securities transactions within the United States and managing an impressive $114 trillion in assets, is set to facilitate live trading of tokenized assets starting in July, with a complete commercial launch scheduled for October. This innovative initiative is the result of collaboration among over 50 financial institutions, including major firms like Bank of America, Goldman Sachs, and JPMorgan, as well as digital asset companies such as Kraken and Fireblocks.

#What Led to This Development?

This significant step follows regulatory approval from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Last December, the DTCC's subsidiary, the Depository Trust Company, received a No-Action Letter from the SEC, granting it the green light to start tokenizing traditional custodial assets.

The services will be operational on authorized blockchains for three years and will ensure that digital assets possess the same legal rights and protections as their traditional counterparts. The initiative will cover important assets like the Russell 1000, major index exchange-traded funds, and U.S. Treasury instruments—bills, bonds, and notes.

#What Benefits Does This Service Offer?

By enabling trading operations in a digital format, DTCC’s new service contributes to a broader shift towards digital markets. It promises significant benefits including round-the-clock trading opportunities, enhanced collateral efficiency, and the potential for programmable finance. This framework will bridge traditional and decentralized financial systems.

As the CEO of DTCC stated, the organization aims to pave pathways for the wider adoption of digital assets while fostering innovation in the sector.

#How is the Real-World Asset Sector Performing?

As of May 4, 2026, the real-world asset market is estimated to be valued at approximately $25 billion. Decentralized finance’s involvement in this sector reaches a total value locked of nearly $2 billion. The perpetual futures market adds an open interest of around $2.4 billion, reflecting a vibrant ecosystem composed of 163 issuers.

Among asset categories, bonds lead significantly with more than $15 billion, followed by precious metals with $5.6 billion and private credit comprising $2.6 billion. Public equities account for $838 million, with increasing distributions within digital assets and various other sectors. The market, previously witnessing steady expansion since 2022, is projected to experience accelerated growth through 2024 and 2025.

In conclusion, DTCC's forthcoming service is set to revolutionize the trading landscape, linking traditional finance with emerging digital opportunities and providing investors with access to a more liquid and efficient market.
