Ethereum's price has experienced a remarkable surge of 9% within the last 24 hours as the excitement builds around its imminent Fusaka network upgrade. This upgrade introduces significant scaling and security enhancements such as PeerDAS, blob scaling capabilities, and multiple Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) focused on improving data efficiency and managing gas costs.

Scheduled to activate on the Ethereum mainnet at block 13,164,544 on December 3, 2025, at 21:49:11 UTC, the Fusaka upgrade is what many consider the next significant update following the Pectra upgrade. Fusaka integrates enhancements to the Osaka execution layer with the Fulu consensus layer, designed to improve overall speed, efficiency, and user-friendliness across the entire Ethereum ecosystem.

The Fusaka upgrade incorporates various modifications that developers and analysts anticipate will enhance Ethereum's scalability trajectory, making the network more agile in accommodating future expansions. The centerpiece of this upgrade is PeerDAS, an innovation aimed at optimizing data management for layer 2 networks. This could dramatically lower the storage requirements for nodes, potentially expanding scalability by as much as eight times.
Additionally, Fusaka will implement a more dynamic framework for increasing blob capacity between major upgrades and will revise the fees associated with blobs to maintain stable data costs during periods of network congestion. While Fusaka may not directly lower base fees, experts expect it to create more favorable conditions for the growth of rollups, alleviate pressure on node operators, and set the stage for enhanced scaling capabilities in the upcoming years.
The upgrade has undergone rigorous testing on prominent public testnets including Holesky and Sepolia. Similar to past upgrades, Fusaka will activate automatically, requiring no intervention from users.
Following the activation of Fusaka, Ethereum plans to enact two minor Blob Parameter Only upgrades, which will gradually escalate blob capacity. The first of these upgrades is anticipated on December 9, followed by the second on January 7.
