GameStop's New Era on Binance: Understanding Tokenized Shares and Their Impact

GameStop has moved to Binance's bStocks, enabling users to trade tokenized shares as collateral for trading strategies.

GameStop, recognized for its standout position during the 2021 retail trading phenomenon, is now available on the Binance platform. On August 12, 2026, Binance integrated GameStop into its bStocks offering, allowing users to utilize these tokenized shares as collateral for cross and portfolio margin trading.

#What Are bStocks?

What do you need to know about bStocks? These are essentially digital representations of real shares. Each bStock is backed by a legitimate U.S. equity, meaning that when you own a GameStop bStock, there is an actual GameStop share held by a custodian in a regulated financial account. This setup ensures that what you own is not just a synthetic wager but a verifiable asset.

The issuance of these tokens is handled by BTech Holdings Limited, a Binance affiliate that operates under the regulations of the Abu Dhabi Global Market framework. Previously, Binance attempted a similar product in 2021; however, it was shut down shortly after due to regulatory concerns raised in regions like Germany, the UK, and Hong Kong regarding the product's structure and user disclosures.

This time, bStocks are built on the BNB Smart Chain and are designed to meet the regulatory requirements of ADGM, which includes maintaining a custodian for the underlying shares. It's important to note that the availability of this product is limited to users in specific eligible markets. Users can transfer their bStocks to crypto wallets, use them as collateral for leveraged trades, and trade them at any time, breaking free from traditional exchange hours.

#What Does This Growth Indicate?

How can we interpret the rapid growth of bStocks? Launched in June 2026, bStocks surpassed $500 million in assets under management just seven weeks later. This number is a significant indicator of interest and investment in tokenized equities.

Currently, bStocks has expanded to feature over 46 listings. In addition to GameStop, it provides tokenized access to stocks of companies like NVIDIA and Tesla, which are often in the spotlight for speculative trading.

It is crucial to distinguish Binance’s GMEB from other tokenized GameStop products available on different platforms. Binance is emphasizing that its bStock version is both backed and regulated, unlike other synthetic products that may be available in the market.

#What Implications Does This Have on the Tokenized Equity Market?

What does the achievement of $500 million in AUM mean for the tokenized securities landscape? This figure serves not only as a success marker for Binance but also as a potential bellwether for the growth and acceptance of tokenized securities in the financial realm. Furthermore, Binance’s approach to regulatory compliance through the ADGM framework provides a strong foundation. However, it remains essential to remember that this regulatory framework does not extend automatically to users in major markets such as the US and EU. Due to this, access to eligible jurisdictions is quite limited, indicating a cautious approach towards broader market integration.
