KernelDAO is winding down its Kernel restaking product, giving users three years to withdraw funds while Kelp and Gain remain operational.

KernelDAO is strategically winding down its Kernel restaking product, providing users with a generous three-year grace period to withdraw their funds. Deposits have ceased since March 7, 2026, and the user interface will be shut down on June 8, 2026. However, users can still access their funds through BscScan smart contracts until June 8, 2029.

What is changing and what remains operational? The restaking feature is only part of the larger KernelDAO ecosystem, which also includes Kelp for liquid restaking and Gain for automated yield vaults. While Kernel is being phased out, both Kelp and Gain will continue to function normally without any disruption. Kelp’s liquid restaking products have historically maintained over $2 billion in total value locked, indicating the decision to phase out Kernel is strategic rather than a sign of distress.

The corresponding points program launched with Kernel restaking concluded earlier this year, with the final rewards cycle coming to a close on February 28, 2026.

Why is this happening? KernelDAO has undergone significant changes; it rebranded from Kelp DAO after launching the $KERNEL token in 2025. Essential for governance and rewards within the ecosystem, the role of the token will remain unchanged during this transition. The project has integrated with over 120 decentralized finance protocols, and efforts are shifting towards KUSD, which focuses on supply chain financing and practical asset utilization.

What should users do next? If you have assets within Kernel, you still have access to the application interface until June 8, 2026, allowing you to withdraw easily during that period. Post this date, you will need to interact with the smart contract directly via BscScan for any withdrawals, which will remain available until mid-2029.

Does this affect $KERNEL holders? The shutdown of Kernel does not impact the broader utility of the $KERNEL token. The governance rights and reward systems are still tied to the ongoing operations of Kelp and Gain, ensuring continuity for investors within the ecosystem.
