Lombard Finance is changing its yield strategy by partnering with Bitwise, launching a $10 million pilot focused on options income generation.

#How is Lombard Finance Evolving Its Yield Strategy?

Lombard Finance is making significant changes to its yield strategy. Rather than using its current yield sources, it will now engage a managed options strategy by Bitwise Asset Management. This transition will kick off with a pilot program featuring an investment of $10 million set to launch soon.

Bitwise recently introduced its Ethereum Option Income Strategy ETF, known as IETH, on October 2, 2025. This ETF employs a synthetic covered-call strategy to generate income based on ether exposure. This strategy provides Bitwise with the infrastructure necessary to apply similar mechanisms in partnership with firms like Lombard.

#What Other Opportunities Exist with the Lombard and Bitwise Collaboration?

The relationship between Lombard and Bitwise extends beyond Ethereum-based projects. In March 2026, the companies formalized a strategic partnership targeting Bitcoin Smart Accounts. This framework is designed to allow institutions to generate yield on custodied Bitcoin while retaining control of their private keys, rather than entrusting them to third parties.

This aspect of their collaboration addresses a sizable amount of dormant institutional capital. It is estimated that around $500 billion is lying idle in Bitcoin custody. The initiative aims to channel this capital into productive use by integrating decentralized finance lending with tokenized real-world assets, ensuring that Bitcoin remains within its original safe custody framework.

#What Implications Does This Have for Investors?

The Bitwise options strategy, while promising, does come with certain risks that investors need to consider. Covered-call strategies inherently limit the potential for upside gains. In scenarios where Ether experiences a significant price surge, Lombard's users may forfeit some potential profits because the sold calls could be exercised against them. This fundamental trade-off is a critical component of any covered-call position, one that investors focused on income are typically prepared to accept.

Lombard Finance, with Bitwise managing over $15 billion in client assets, is moving towards a future filled with diverse income strategies across various crypto assets, paving the way for innovative financial solutions in the cryptocurrency landscape.
