Manchester City is set to extend Joško Gvardiol's contract until June 2031, securing a key defensive asset despite past injuries.

Manchester City is preparing to secure its significant defensive player, Joško Gvardiol, with a new contract extending until June 2031.

Gvardiol, a Croatian center-back, transferred to Manchester City from RB Leipzig on August 5, 2023, in a move reportedly costing $90 million. Initially, he signed a five-year agreement, totaling around $52 million in wages, with an annual salary of approximately $10.4 million. His original contract was set to finish in 2028.

The new deal, which includes better financial terms, ensures his stay at City until he is 29 years old. There are even discussions suggesting that the contract could extend to 2032, with some clauses highlighting options extending through 2030 and into 2031.

Despite facing a tibial fracture injury earlier in 2026, Gvardiol’s value to Manchester City has not diminished. The club's commitment to his future reflects their confidence in his abilities.

Additionally, interest from Real Madrid has been noted, yet Gvardiol appears to be dedicated to remaining with Manchester City. Trusted transfer journalists have confirmed that an official offer is active, and this agreement is expected to be finalized ahead of the new season.
