The TRUMP coin plummets to a historic low before a Mar-a-Lago event featuring Donald Trump, raising questions about governance and security.

Official Trump, the meme coin on Solana that is backed by Donald Trump, recently fell to a historical low prior to a special token holder event at Mar-a-Lago. The token saw a decline of approximately 14%, dropping from $2.90 to a low of $2.50 before recovering to around $2.60, as indicated by on-chain data.

This upcoming event will host a blend of cryptocurrency enthusiasts and finance professionals. Some notable attendees include Paolo Ardoino from Tether, ChiHyung Song of Upbit, Xiao-Xiao J. Zhu from Jupiter, Nikil Viswanathan of Alchemy, and Nathan McCord from Anchorage Digital. The venture capital arena will also be represented by Cathie Wood from ARK Invest, Joey Krug of Founders Fund, Tim Draper, and real estate entrepreneur Grant Cardone. The gathering will even feature former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson.

Attendance is limited to 297 people chosen based on their TRUMP coin holdings, with the top 29 obtaining VIP privileges such as a private reception with Donald Trump, a Mar-a-Lago presentation, and priority seating.

This luncheon follows the TRUMP Gala Dinner held last May at Trump National Golf Club, where top token holders contributed to an aggregate holding of roughly $394 million in TRUMP tokens. At that time, some attendees had invested as much as $10 million for a seat at the dinner.

Since its launch on January 17, 2025, the TRUMP token experienced a meteoric rise to an all-time high of $75, which elevated its market cap to approximately $27 billion. However, it has since dropped an alarming 96%. The event has attracted attention due to concerns regarding governance and transparency, as there appears to be less information regarding participants compared to previous events. Issues surrounding security and potential foreign involvement have also emerged, despite organizers assuring attendees of planned screening measures.
