Plume secures a Bermuda license, becoming the first regulated vault manager for digital assets, paving the way for institutional investments.

#What does Plume’s new license mean for the digital asset market?

Plume’s Bermuda-based subsidiary has successfully acquired a Class M Digital Asset Business License from the Bermuda Monetary Authority. This achievement positions Plume as the first regulated on-chain vault manager operating within the digital asset framework of Bermuda, establishing a significant milestone in the industry.

The license is specifically granted to Kimber Digital Assets Bermuda ISAC Ltd., or KDAB, which is uniquely designed for this purpose. It empowers the subsidiary to create and distribute vault tokens while adhering to the stringent Anti-Money Laundering and Know Your Customer standards that align with Bermuda’s existing stablecoin regulations. This allows Plume to offer a range of tokenized financial products, such as Treasury-backed yield vaults, through channels that institutional investors can trust.

#How will the products be structured?

Plume is collaborating with Centrifuge, a recognized name in on-chain credit markets, to develop low-risk treasury vaults. These vaults will incorporate the regulated Liquid Treasury Fund managed by Anemoy, providing access to AAA-rated yield products that mainly include tokenized US Treasuries. This partnership underscores a collective approach to provide safe and compliant investment options for investors.

#Why is Bermuda an attractive location for digital assets?

Bermuda has established itself as a leader in developing a cohesive regulatory framework for digital assets. Since the introduction of the Digital Asset Business Act in 2018, Bermuda has gained a competitive edge over larger jurisdictions that are still navigating the complexities of regulatory definitions. This proactive stance has made Bermuda a haven for digital asset initiatives.

Plume operates on a Layer 1 blockchain specifically engineered for real-world assets. Since its launch in early 2024, the network claims to have formed partnerships with over 150 entities involved in real-world assets, enhancing its operational reach.

#What implications does this have for institutional investors?

For many institutional investors, the inability to access decentralized finance products often stems from compliance hurdles rather than a lack of interest. Having a BMA-licensed entity distributing vault tokens in compliance with formal AML standards effectively addresses these concerns. Plume is strategically positioning itself against dedicated real-world asset protocols like Centrifuge and a growing number of traditional asset managers exploring tokenization.

By offering a compliant path for investment, Plume aims to bridge the gap between traditional finance and emerging digital asset opportunities, ultimately expanding the options available to investors.
