Satsuma Technology ceases operations after shareholders vote to liquidate remaining Bitcoin, reflecting a significant loss from its peak valuation.

Satsuma Technology, previously a key player in the UK corporate Bitcoin sector, is ceasing operations following a shareholder vote. This decision reflects a significant decline from the company's peak valuation of $217.6 million.

The firm, listed in London, focused on holding Bitcoin as a treasury asset while also delving into decentralized AI technologies. At its high point, Satsuma held 1,199 BTC, estimated at around $44.5 million today based on current market prices.

In August 2025, Satsuma successfully raised £163.6 million, driven by investments from notable firms, including ParaFi, Pantera Capital, and Kraken. The company's share price peaked at £14 per share in June 2025. However, by December of the same year, Satsuma began selling off its Bitcoin reserves, reducing its holdings by 579 BTC for approximately £40 million. As a result, the company experienced a staggering 99% downturn in value leading up to the liquidation decision.

Pantera Capital, a significant shareholder owning about 6.7% of Satsuma's shares, played a pivotal role in pushing for the company's liquidation. They argued that shareholders would ultimately benefit from a direct return of Bitcoin value rather than continuing to hold shares that were not accurately valued by the market.

Following the conclusion of the shareholder vote, Satsuma is set to liquidate its remaining 668 BTC and distribute the proceeds. This marks a sharp contrast to the initial funding raised, highlighting the significant recovery challenges under the convertible note structure used for financing. Holders of convertible notes, which take precedence over equity, may leave regular shareholders with minimal recovery outcomes amidst the ongoing market pressure.

In summary, Satsuma's journey from a promising Bitcoin treasury advocate to its current liquidation emphasizes the volatility and risk inherent in cryptocurrency investments, particularly for retail investors. It serves as a stern reminder of the necessity for thorough due diligence and the understanding of financial structures within investment ventures.
