Solana Mobile's dApp Spotlight feature highlights quality apps in its decentralized app store, improving visibility for users.

Finding quality applications in a decentralized app store can be challenging. Solana Mobile addresses this issue with its new feature called dApp Spotlight. This tool serves as a curated discovery mechanism within the Solana dApp Store, aimed at highlighting high-quality apps that risk getting overlooked.

What is dApp Spotlight and How Does it Work?

The dApp Spotlight feature will present organized themes of dApps and prominently display them, ensuring that users can easily find what they are looking for. The initial theme, Onchain Games and Puzzles, introduces four selected applications to users who have the Solana Seeker smartphone.

As of now, the Solana dApp Store showcases over 225 dApps, and the Seeker smartphone has achieved a distribution of over 150,000 units. This significant reach sets the stage for increased visibility of curated dApps. On June 4, an enhancement in the form of a ratings and reviews system was implemented. This allows users to publicly assess applications, creating a dual approach to app discovery through user feedback combined with editorial curation.

Understanding the Seeker Ecosystem and Its Fee-Free Model

The Solana dApp Store offers a unique advantage by waiving platform fees for developers. This is a significant contrast to competing platforms, such as Apple, which charges up to 30% on transactions. This model fosters a healthier environment for developers, encouraging a diverse range of applications to flourish within the ecosystem.

Integrating the Solana native token, SKR, connects many aspects of this environment. With a maximum supply of 10 billion tokens, SKR plays a multifaceted role across governance, incentives, and curation. The dApp Spotlight feature operates within this framework, potentially linking its curated visibility with token-based incentives and various Seeker Season initiatives designed to motivate regular user interactions with apps.
