Starknet Foundation's Proof of Privacy incubator now accepts applications for teams developing privacy tools in decentralized finance.

The Starknet Foundation is making a significant move by launching an incubator program called Proof of Privacy, which is now open for applications. This initiative aims to foster innovation in decentralized finance by supporting teams that are developing new privacy tools on the STRK20 privacy framework. In essence, this program operates similarly to a startup accelerator, focusing on practical applications rather than theoretical projects. Accepted teams will engage in eight weeks of rigorous mentorship and receive milestone-based support to advance their concepts.

Understanding STRK20 is essential. This framework, launched in early June, integrates zero-knowledge privacy features for ERC-20 tokens, allowing users to shield their asset balances and conduct private transactions without needing to transfer tokens to a specialized privacy chain. The technology is grounded in client-side zero-knowledge proofs, crafted using StarkWare’s Stwo prover and the Cairo programming language. This setup effectively obscures transaction details, keeping the sender, receiver, and amount hidden from public view.

To enhance usability, STRK20 offers optional viewing keys, enabling users to disclose transaction legitimacy to supervisors while maintaining privacy from the broader network. This balance creates a truly practical approach to privacy in digital finance.

Why is an incubator necessary now? The Starknet Foundation is specifically targeting innovators interested in leveraging STRK20 for tangible applications such as payroll systems, lending platforms, and identity verification solutions. The structure of the eight-week program indicates a preference for teams with established concepts that demonstrate empirical progress rather than just promising ideas. Through this milestone-based support, the Foundation aims to provide funding and resources aligned with measurable achievements, creating a robust environment for groundbreaking advancements in privacy technology.
