Strategy Inc. sold Bitcoin to fund a $109 million stock buyback, raising financial flexibility while maintaining strong cash reserves.

#What Did Strategy Inc. Do with Its Bitcoin Holdings?

Strategy Inc. has recently divested a segment of its Bitcoin assets, selling off 1,638 BTC and utilizing the proceeds for a significant stock buyback, amounting to $109 million for its STRC preferred stock. The sale yielded approximately $104.7 million at an average price close to $63,957 per coin. Simultaneously, Strategy also generated about $291 million through at-the-market sales of Class A common stock, effectively selling its own equity at a scale six times greater than its Bitcoin liquidation.

Of the gains from the Bitcoin sale, $52.3 million was allocated to the repurchase of STRC securities, while the remainder, $52.4 million, was used to cover preferred dividends. The STRC security is a variable-rate perpetual preferred stock that aims for a target dividend yield of around 12% after relevant adjustments.

#Why Is This Important for Investors?

The broader purpose of this initiative is based on a board decision made on June 29, 2026. This decision allowed for up to $1 billion in buybacks for both Digital Credit Securities and MSTR common stock. After this latest transaction, Strategy’s cash reserves now amount to approximately $4 billion to $4.65 billion, a financial position described by the company as providing a multi-year financial runway.

#How Does Strategy's Bitcoin Position Compare?

After the sale, Strategy remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, possessing approximately 842,000 BTC. The recent sale of 1,638 BTC accounts for around 0.2% of their total holdings. Notably, Strategy had refrained from making any substantial new Bitcoin purchases in the weeks leading up to this sale.

#What Should Investors Watch Moving Forward?

The nature of the STRC structure is noteworthy. As a variable-rate perpetual preferred stock targeting a substantial dividend yield, it represents an expensive capital option under typical market conditions. Logic dictates that retiring this stock below its par value during favorable market circumstances constitutes prudent corporate management. Should Strategy continue to identify STRC shares trading at a discount to par, we can anticipate ongoing buybacks that will chip away at this obligation long before the $1 billion authorization limit is reached.
