#How Are Public Companies Engaging with Bitcoin?
The interest in Bitcoin among public companies has surged, with the number of firms holding substantial Bitcoin portfolios more than doubling over the last year. By the end of 2025, 49 public companies reported holdings of at least 1,000 BTC, a significant increase from just 22 the year prior. This group now controls close to 5% of Bitcoin's total supply, which is capped at 21 million coins.
#Which Companies Hold The Most Bitcoin?
Leading the way in this corporate Bitcoin race is Strategy, formerly known as MicroStrategy, which boasts an impressive 847,000 BTC in its possession. Following far behind is Twenty One Capital, with about 43,500 BTC, and Metaplanet, which holds around 40,000 BTC. MARA Holdings rounds out the top tier with approximately 36,000 BTC to its name.
By early June 2026, the trend continued, with a report indicating between 170 and 199 public companies owning roughly 1.265 million BTC, accounting for around 6% of the total Bitcoin supply. This substantial collection was valued at around $76 billion based on current market prices. Notably, public companies made significant moves in May 2026, adding a net of 43,557 BTC to their cumulative holdings, spurred by announcements from firms like SpaceX.
#What Types of Bitcoin Holders Are There?
Fidelity's analysis categorizes these corporate Bitcoin holders into three distinct groups. The first category consists of native companies, which are primarily Bitcoin miners or firms that accumulate BTC naturally through their operations. The second group is referred to as strategic holders. These firms intentionally build Bitcoin treasuries as a core part of their business model. Strategy serves as a primary example of this approach. Lastly, traditional companies, which are non-crypto firms, make the decision to invest a portion of their treasury funds in Bitcoin.
Despite being fewer in number, strategic firms command the majority of all corporate Bitcoin reserves, indicating a deliberate trend towards Bitcoin integration in their financial strategies.
