Newcleo focuses on advanced nuclear technology using recycled waste and explores a potential public listing amid significant funding milestones.

#What Is Newcleo and What Are Its Future Plans?

Newcleo is an innovative company focused on advanced nuclear technology, specifically developing reactors that utilize recycled nuclear waste as their fuel source. There has been considerable speculation in the financial community regarding a potential public listing for the firm, which might come through a merger with a special purpose acquisition company, although no such arrangements have been finalized. As of now, Newcleo remains a privately held enterprise.

Since its inception in 2021, Newcleo has garnered more than $755 million in private capital. This funding has been received from esteemed investors such as Azimut, Exor Ventures, and Bpifrance, which is France's public investment bank. The company achieved a significant milestone in 2024, reaching a valuation close to 1.5 billion euros during a funding round. Furthermore, Newcleo completed an additional growth round in early 2026, raising $85 million to support its ambitions.

#What Technologies Does Newcleo Develop?

The core technology developed by Newcleo involves lead-cooled fast modular reactors, a category of small modular reactors (SMRs). These reactors employ mixed oxide fuel (MOX), which is produced from recycled nuclear waste.

In a strategic move in October 2025, Newcleo formed an alliance with Oklo, a U.S.-based developer of small modular reactors that made its own public debut through a SPAC merger in 2024. This partnership could lead to investments nearing $2 billion, focusing on the infrastructure for plutonium fuel. Additionally, in February 2026, Newcleo unveiled a collaboration concerning the LEANDREA demonstration project, paving the way for commercial deployment of its reactors by the early 2030s.

#What Should Investors Consider?

For investors, it is crucial to evaluate the insights provided by CEO Stefano Buono, who has voiced caution regarding public market conditions. Since Newcleo's technology is still in the pre-commercial stage and no lead-cooled fast reactors are operational on a commercial level, due diligence is essential. Another player in the SMR sector, NuScale Power, went public via SPAC in 2022, while Oklo is presently listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
