Visa Intelligent Commerce facilitates a new integration with Nevermined, allowing artificial intelligence agents to autonomously purchase digital goods and services. This innovation aims to convert agent activities into real revenue for merchants, enhancing how digital transactions are conducted.
The integration leverages Visa's agent payment framework alongside Coinbase's x402 protocol, an internet-native payment solution. This allows AI agents to request and pay for various digital assets, like articles and API responses, by utilizing existing card payment systems.
With this launch, both users and businesses can register their Visa cards for AI agents to make purchases. They can enforce budget limits and merchant restrictions, empowering them to control spending within set parameters. As a result, merchants can receive payments through their current payment processors, such as Stripe, simplifying the purchase process for AI agents.
This rollout aligns with Visa's strategy to enhance agentic commerce, stemming from their introduction of Intelligent Commerce in April 2025. This framework invites developers to create shopping and payment experiences driven by AI. Following that, the launch of Intelligent Commerce Connect in April 2026 added a unified integration layer for secure payment initiation and controls.
