Zelenskiy’s willingness for peace talks in Azerbaijan may impact the long-term market outlook, despite current skepticism.

Ukraine’s President Zelenskiy recently expressed openness to engage in peace discussions with Russia in Azerbaijan. However, the likelihood of achieving a ceasefire by April 30, 2026, remains low at just 0.8%. Traders continue to closely monitor the situation.

Despite Zelenskiy’s willingness to convene at a neutral site, the April 30 market has shown little movement, as there are only a few days left until that date. Meanwhile, the longer-term June 30 market reflects more cautious optimism, with the probability of a deal sitting at 7.5%, down from 8% earlier. Traders seem doubtful about the chances of reaching a ceasefire within the next 67 days.

Zelenskiy's proposal to meet could lead to future diplomatic engagements. However, without a corresponding response from Moscow, traders remain hesitant. The indicators suggest that this proposal may serve more for strategic positioning in the long run rather than facilitating immediate resolutions. In fact, it would require an investment of $1,941 to shift the April 30 odds by 5 points, highlighting the low liquidity in this market and the potential for volatility.

In contrast, the June 30 market appears to be more dynamic, with a daily USDC volume of $3,778 reflecting some belief among traders in a potential breakthrough, albeit with significant reservations. The most notable price adjustments in the last 24 hours have been minimal.

Zelenskiy's recent signals could signify a new direction towards negotiations; however, without a commitment from Moscow, these gestures may not have substantial impact. Currently, if a YES position is bought at 8 cents, it would yield $1 if a ceasefire occurs by June 30, presenting a 12.5 times return. Traders would need to consider whether they believe Moscow will reciprocate soon, especially with U.S. involvement in pushing for dialogue.

Investors should remain vigilant for any statements from President Putin or official communications from the Kremlin. Any acknowledgment of the meeting proposal could represent a critical turning point in the negotiations and significantly influence market movements.
