FCEL, NKE, RAD, CCL, KMX: Earnings Preview

Welcome to another busy week for company earnings, including Inspirato, Inc. (NASDAQ: ISPO), Ark Restaurants Corp. (NASDAQ: ARKR), Enerpac Tool Group Corp. (NYSE: EPAC), FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX), General Mills, Inc. (NYSE: GIS), Micron Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: MU), Cintas Corp. (NASDAQ: CTAS), Paychex, Inc. (NASDAQ: PAYX), Toro Co. (NYSE: TTC), Worthington Industries, Inc. (NYSE: WOR), MillerKnoll, Inc. (NASDAQ: MLKN), Steelcase, Inc. (NYSE: SCS), HEICO Corp. (NYSE: HEI), FactSet Research Systems, Inc. (NYSE: FDS), AAR Corp. (NYSE: AIR), Apogee Enterprises, Inc. Here are five stocks with upcoming earnings to keep on your radar:

FuelCell Energy (NASDAQ: FCEL)

FuelCell Energy (NASDAQ: FCEL) will release its fourth quarter and fiscal year 2022 results prior to the Stock Market Open on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. This will be followed by a management-hosted conference call with investors at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. FactSet analyst consensus for EPS is -0.34, and the consensus for sales is $137m.

What does FuelCell Energy do?

FuelCell Energy is a global leader in manufacturing stationary fuel cell energy platforms for decarbonizing power and producing hydrogen through its proprietary, state-of-the-art fuel cell technology.

The company specializes in developing and manufacturing clean energy technologies. It is a leader in its field and holds numerous patents for fuel cell technology in the United States and internationally.

FuelCell Energy solutions are designed to empower a world powered by clean energy and improve the quality of life for people everywhere. The company works with a range of customers, including businesses, utilities, governments, and municipalities, to provide sustainable products and solutions.

11 FactSet analysts have a Hold rating on FCEL stock, with a share price target of $3.52. The FCEL share price is down -32.5% YTD.

Nike (NYSE: NKE)

Nike (NYSE: NKE) will release its Q2 earnings on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, following the close of regular stock market trading hours. Following the news release, NIKE, Inc. management will host a conference call beginning at 2:00 p.m. PT to review the results.

What does Nike do?

NIKE, Inc., is the world's leading designer, marketer and distributor of authentic athletic footwear, apparel, equipment and accessories for a wide variety of sports and fitness activities. Converse, a wholly-owned NIKE, Inc. subsidiary brand, designs, markets, and distributes athletic lifestyle footwear, apparel and accessories. 

NKE stock has a price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 30.1 (what is a P/E ratio?) and a price-to-book value of 10.5. It pays a 1.3% dividend yield.

33 FactSet analysts have an Overweight rating on NKE stock, with a share price target of $117. The NKE share price is down -36.4% YTD.

Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD)

Rite Aid (NYSE: RAD) will release its Q3 2023 earnings on December 21, 2022 before the market opens in the Eastern Time zone. The consensus among FactSet analysts projects EPS of -$0.15 and sales of $5.9bn.

What does Rite Aid do?

Rite Aid is a pharmacy chain that offers a wide range of services to improve customer health outcomes. These services include retail and delivery pharmacy, as well as services offered through Elixir, Bartell Drugs, and Health Dialog. Elixir is Rite Aid's pharmacy benefits and services company that includes accredited mail and specialty pharmacies, prescription discount programs, and an adjudication platform. Health Dialog provides healthcare coaching and disease management services through live online and phone sessions. Bartell Drugs is a regional chain that has served the health and wellness needs of the Seattle area for over 130 years. Rite Aid employs over 6,300 pharmacists and operates over 2,300 retail pharmacy locations in 17 states.

RAD stock does not pay a dividend.

3 FactSet analysts have a Sell rating on RAD stock, with a share price target of $4. The RAD share price is down almost 71% YTD and currently sits at $4.27.

Carnival (NYSE: CCL)

Carnival (NYSE: CCL) will release its Q4 2022 earnings on December 21. FactSet analyst consensus for EPS is -$4.72, and the consensus for sales is $12.3bn.

In Q3, CCL reported a net loss of $770m and an adjusted net loss of $688m, with adjusted EBITDA of over $300m and revenue that increased by nearly 80% compared to Q2 2022, reflecting continued sequential improvement and increased occupancy.

What does Carnival do?

Carnival Corporation and Carnival plc operate as dual-listed companies, meaning that they are separate legal entities that function as a single economic entity through contractual agreements. Both companies have the same economic and voting interests, but their shares are listed on different stock exchanges and are not interchangeable.

Carnival Corporation's common stock is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (How to buy NYSE stocks) under the symbol CCL, while Carnival plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange under the symbol CCL and as an ADS on the NYSE under the symbol CUK. Carnival is unique in that it is included in both the S&P 500 index in the US and the FTSE 250 index in the UK.

CCL stock has a forward P/E of 20.1 and a price-to-book value of 1.3. It does not pay a dividend yield. 

24 FactSet analysts have a Hold rating on CCL stock, with a share price target of $10.47. The CCL share price is down -58% YTD.

CarMax (NYSE: KMX)

CarMax (NYSE: KMX) will release its Q3 results on December 22. FactSet analyst estimates have slated a consensus EPS of $0.73 and sales of $7.3bn for the quarter.

In Q2, CarMax reported net revenues of $8.1bn. Gross profit per retail used unit rose by $97 per unit, and CarMax's share of the nationwide 0-10-year-old vehicle market continued to increase through July. Total wholesale units decreased by 15.1%, with gross profit per unit declining by $124 per unit.

The number of vehicles CarMax bought from consumers and dealers declined by 8.1% Y/Y.

KMX stock has a P/E of 12.4 and a price-to-book value of 1.8.

19 FactSet analysts have an Overweight rating on KMX stock, with a share price target of $73.43. The KMX share price is down -52.8% YTD.

What does CarMax do?

CarMax is a used car retailer. The company was founded in 1993 and has grown to become of the largest car retailers in the United States. As well as selling used cars, it offers financing options, car maintenance and repair services and trade-in options.
