Growth stocks outperformed value on Wednesday. Tech, consumer discretionary, and communication services led with FANMAG mostly higher. EVs, solar up, but cloud software weaker. Commodity stocks mostly higher, extending the week's solid gains.

US inflation is again headline news as CPI data for December matched the consensus coming in at 7% year-over-year. Headline CPI of 0.5% month-over-month was slightly higher than estimates of 0.4%.

Growth outperformed value yesterday, with FANMAG stocks primarily green. Steel, copper, lithium and nickel stocks soared, keeping pace with commodity prices. Goldman Sachs believes we are at the beginning of a 10-year commodity supercycle.

Oil flat. Gold softer. Industrial metals mostly lower. Cryptocurrencies firmer.

  • Silvergate Capital (NYSE: SI) shares climbed around 8% yesterday after being upgraded to outperform from market perform at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods.

  • Rocket Lab USA (NASDAQ: RKLB) shares climbed 5% after being marked as overweight at Morgan Stanley.

  • Snowflake (NASDAQ: SNOW) has been upgraded to overweight from equal-weight at Barclays.

  • Software start-up Justworks delayed its IPO due to uncertainty in the market. 

  • Private equity firm TPG (NASDAQ: TPG) went public via IPO yesterday, raising $1bn (within its marketed price range). This gives TPG a $9bn market value.

  • Kitchen and bath products supplier FGI Industries is expected to IPO on the NASDAQ today (not yesterday) with the ticker symbol FGI.

  • Infosys (NYSE: INFY) reported improved Q3 revenue and EPS with digital transformation rapidly scaling across verticals and regions. It raised revenue growth guidance for FY22.

  • DISH Network (NASDAQ: DISH) is reportedly in merger talks with DirecTV.

  • Shareholders in Decarbonization Plus Acquisition Corporation II (NASDAQ: DCRN) approved its SPAC combination with fast charger specialist Tritium. Palantir Technologies (NYSE: PLTR) is an early PIPE investor in Tritium.

  • Hyzon Motors (NASDAQ: HYZN) lowered 2021 revenue guidance. It has received an SEC subpoena related to allegations made in a report issued by Blue Orca Capital; the company has previously called the report "inaccurate and misleading." HYZN shares down 10.8%.

  • CMS said Medicare would cover Alzheimer's drug Aduhelm for limited patients in clinical trials. This led to a share price drop in both Biogen (NASDAQ: BIIB) and Eli Lilly (NYSE: LLY).

  • Today, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE: TSM) will release its Q4 earnings.

  • Delta Air Lines (NYSE: DAL) is due to release its Q4 earnings today.

  • Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) will reportedly choose its Apple Car suppliers by the end of the year, with a view to start mass production within two to three years.

  • DAZN is reportedly closer to acquiring BT sport for $800m while potentially preparing for a London IPO.

  • The UK House of Lords Economic Affairs Committee said that introducing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) could pose "significant risks" in the UK.

  • The news that Kim Kardashian and Floyd Mayweather are being sued over a 'pump and dump' crypto scam continues to make headlines. The lawsuit states that the company's executives, collaborating with several celebrity promoters ... made false or misleading statements about the EthereumMax token through social media advertisements and other promotional activities.

  • According to broker eToro, retail investors switched from first-generation cryptos in 2021 to YOLO into the metaverse and meme coins
